With the encouragement of Groop members, I participated in a
one day Chamber of Commerce Business Expo Thursday.
My 8 x 10' booth featured a desk in the process of being refurbished
with a before and after side, a chair that I was spot repairing,
and my "portable" touch up case.
I took my "before and after" portfolio and brought brochures,
business cards and a Furniture Care guide to hand out.
Between 10am and 7pm the traffic was steady and I talked with
probably 100 people about my touch up and refurbishing business.
It seemed like everyone had a piece of furniture that needs work
and I was able to get names and phone numbers
of the more serious prospects.
I also learned a bit about my competition in town
("He never calls back." "He's really busy."
"He's had my stuff forever and hasn't finished it yet." )
The crowd must have been drawn to my booth by
my smiling face and my smudged shop apron
which made me look like an "old pro".
The booth and the Chamber membership cost me $320.
I already have $300 worth of work scheduled that came from the event.
We'll see how many of the conversations turn into additional business.
Thanks again to all of you who provided input on a business expo booth!
