Last week I attended a furniture restoration class at the
Marc Adams School of Woodworking in Franklin Indiana.
The instructor was our own Alan Noel.

Thought the Groop would like to see Alan in action
so I am sending along a few pictures.

Marc Adams provided a good sized shop to work out of,
which was good since we had some big projects like chests
of drawers, cedar chests, curio cabinets and sofa tables.

The first and second day we stripped furniture.
Alan ruined a good shirt on day one showing us how its done.

The rest of the week was devoted to repairing furniture and
using Alan's method of using asphaltum as a glaze to give
the project furniture beautiful color and clarity.
One craftsman style arm chair in particular
served as a great example of the Czar of Tar's work.

Alan treated us to a short classical guitar demonstration and recital on Friday.
We heard everything from Bach to Deep Purple.
Alan's such an accomplished musician, he can sound
really good at 8 am before the coffee has had time to kick in.
Maybe we can have him perform at Groop Shop III !

The refinishers in the class had never heard of Groop and were impressed
by the sharing of ideas that goes on in this forum. I told them that Groop
is like a daily class with Alan Noel ... you learn something everyday.
Who knows, we may pick up a few new members from this experience.
