Here is a typical repair I run into on a Wenge door face. I took
the photos yesterday after reading your post. Approx. 2" x 5"
broken out piece and about 3 1/2' up from the floor. There is a
matching broken out place about 3' below it that I did not
photograph. Door repair time including other scratched areas.
About 1 hour.
- Walnut epoxy, sand with palm sander 150.
- Block sand 180.
- Spray heavy with Satin or Flat and before dry, rub quickly
with fingers back and forth with grain till to speed drying and
help it seal the wood.
- Mix color semi-close to base color and quickly cover repair
area till uniform. I used differing amounts of Burnt Sienna and
an orangish Medium Oak mixed with Medium Brown/
American Walnut toner. (Kind of explained in the Applying
Color thread).
- Mix toner and powder to brush in light areas between grain
that are wide enough to follow easier.
- Graining pens Medium and Dark Brown and Black. The
lighter graining pens to even out the light areas, Black to bring
out the grain. On most repairs, I find the graining pens are
actually too fine, but on Wenge, they work pretty well.
- Seal with a couple coats Clear and then steel wool #0000
with mixed up Guardsman Polish Concentrate.( I use
Guardsman like this after almost every repair, really evens it
out, but it also depends on the look you want).
I debated whether or not to post this reply because it is difficult
to explain the method I am not usually happy with the way the
photos show up. The flash brings out colors that are not there
in natural light and without flash, it is too dark and blurs easily.
