Groop,
A 1938 Zenith that I restored last year.
It's in my collection and is in the foyer of my home,
although I have restored three others of this model
for customers over the years.
Of all the floor models, this one is my favorite.
It was made in 1938 and has 12 tubes.
It tunes AM and two shortwave bands and has electric tuning.
You turn the knob and a motor zips the pointer around the dial.
In the spirit of Christmas, I have decorated it with a reproduction
of an advertising ribbon that dealers used that year.
The cabinet is walnut veneer with birdseye maple accents.
I refinished it with NC (the original finish),
used a brown grain filler,
and toned the shoulders and base with burnt umber toner.
The original finish had lost adhesion,
so I was able to remove it by scraping.
This same chasis was used in a table model that was
used as a prop in the television show "The Waltons."
The table model is quite valuable and rare.
(I was lucky enough to acquire one some years back,
but if you ever run across one, let me know!)
