One of the reasons I love this work so much is that
every week we see something we've never seen
before. People were really creative in the years gone
bye.
Here is a chair for reglue, refinish, recane. A quick
look underneath saw no cane holes so we concluded
it was press cane. We then removed the old
substitute fiber seat and WOW we found something
we had never seen before. It was not press cane. It
was not hand cane. We have to call it "wrap cane".
Note that the final product has no cane holes or reed
on top. The wood cleats below screw in and pulling
wet cane tight as you tighten the opposite side did it.
Clean as a whistle.
What is the most unusual chair caning requirement
you have ever seen?
