Groop,

Recently I salvaged pieces of a veneered dresser top that an antique dealer was tearing off
an old chest of drawers. I thought that the oak veneer might come in useful for repairs
on down the road.  The problem is, how do I get the veneer off of the 1/4" substrate?

I tossed a piece in water and tried to soak it off and that didn't work.  So I placed a piece in an old
coffee urn and heated up the water and the old hide glue loosened up and the veneer came right off.

My question......are there other ways to remove veneer affixed to the substrate
with hide glue without soaking a piece in hot water?

A picture of my un-veneering project is attached.
