Groop,

I have been asked to put rolling casters on a set of chairs with
splayed legs.

The owner had the contractor who is remodeling his kitchen put
casters on one of his chairs as a test.  The contractor cut off three
inches off the chair legs because he said that the turned tapered end
of the leg would not be strong enough to hold the stem of a caster.
Then he drilled holes through the center of the legs and mounted
stem casters.  Because the stem of the casters are not perpendicular
to the floor, the casters bent as soon as my client sat on the chair.

My question is, are there any casters out there designed to fit on the
tips of chairs with splayed legs?  This guy is determined to have rolling
casters on his chair legs but I told him it might be an impossible task.
But I knew if there was an answer out there, the Groop would know.

Any suggestions?  Or should I just give him his chair back and
tell him he needs a chair with legs perpendicular to the floor to
install rolling casters.
