This is one of the strangest situations we have faced in our many years of
business.

A potential customer called several months ago stating she had a desk with
water damage that she wanted refinished as soon as she returned from
Arizona- (that's were smart people from Wisconsin spend their winters, you
know).  Well, the second call came when she returned except that this time
she only wanted the water damage repaired, since a friend of hers told her
the desk was worth $38,000.  The friend had some sort of book that appraised
antiques and stated it would be devalued if refinished.  So.....

I have not seen the desk and these pictures are from the potential customer.
I don't think there are any clues in the pictures, but I am hoping someone
waaaaay better than I am at identifying furniture will help me on this.
When I do go look at the desk, I know I should look at the jointery.  What
else should I be looking for?  The desk belonged to the customer's
grandmother so that would give us a timeframe if it were purchased new but
the customer doesn't know if it was purchased new.

I want to make sure I am not refinishing something that I shouldn't be.  On
the other hand, the pictures look like restoration is in order if it is a
reproduction piece.  I am not qualified to tell the difference.

Thanks in advance for any information you can supply.
