I have an interesting repair decision to make on a reputed 300 year
old German table top flax loom. There are 2 difficult repairs. One
to a leg and one to a stretcher. Both are not clean breaks. I would
like to preserve as much of the original wood as possible.
The 2 solutions I come up with are a scarf joint (which would
remove historic wood) and inserting dowels and filling the voids
with some sort of fill. Both options have conservation drawbacks. I
seek other options to conserve the existing wood. Photos attached.
