My customer's high gloss, full fill mahogany table has white marking in
the grain over the entire surface of the table. I hesitate to call it
"blush" because of its appearance in the grain only.
The table is 14 years old and the customer tells me that it has never
been stored or exposed to high humidity or water. After they had it for
"several" years the finish problem started to display and gradually got
worse.
I tried shooting straight retarder on a 6 sq in area and it made no
difference whatsoever. I buffed it with my Makita buffer with foam
waffle pad and Finesse-It trying to generate a little heat through
friction. That made no difference either.
The attached picture is representative of the remainder of the table.
What do you think is the cause of the problem? Could it be a failed
finish? And, if so, what might have been the cause?
The biggie, of course, is can the finish be repaired without stripping?
