Being a major fan of Mahogany, I read the thread yesterday and wanted to add
my 2 cents worth. Just noticed that the cent key isn't even on the keyboard
anymore! First, a great source for finding out of print books is a web site
called Abebooks.com It's a consortium of new and used book dealers all over
the world and I immediately went to the site and snagged the only copy of
the Mahogany Association book available for the princely sum of 11 dollars
and change including shipping. Wait a month or so and I will wager you can
find another copy. Six months and it's a lock!
Second, I am forwarding under separate cover photos of a pair of Mahogany
bookends that I discovered years ago at a yard sale. What makes them
interesting is the label on the bottom and the incredible weight and density
of the wood itself. It bears little or no resemblance to the Genuine
Honduran Mahogany (read tree farmed) stuff we can buy today. Nature does a
much better job of creating beautiful wood than we humans do. Using the
sophisticated thumbnail test results in a broken nail and no mark on the
wood.
