I have an oak hall tree from a local dealer that has been covered
in some of the "gooiest blackest" goop that one can imagine.
Underneath is your basic "1906" tiger oak which will look great
once I get this "road tar" off.
I presume this was an early attempt using asphlatum.
Stripping in the flowover removes most from the piece
but the carvings and turnings will require some serious
lacquer thinner/dental pick time.
My flowover tray is a mess and I now have a 5 gallon bucket
of stripper/sludge that I could probably donate
to the county highway department.
Any better ways if I should run up against this again in the future?
