Groop,

This is my first job of goldleafing a flat surface.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong to make the imitation
goldleaf crinkle and not lay flat?

I am using rolco quick dry gilding size and sepp imitation goldleaf
sheets. I let the size dry for about and 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

At first I had tried using gold paint with a gloss pre-cat topcoat,
but the client was not satisfied with the color and wanted the
goldleaf.  The original finish was lacquer and I did not have an
adherence problem between the lacquer, paint and pre-cat. I
then sanded the pre-cat and applied the size and goldleaf and I
could not get the goldleaf to lay flat. I layed the goldleaf with the
paper and rubbed the paper with my fingers to flatten the
goldleaf and wound up the crinkle that will not buff out.

Thanks in advance,
