Rich Dennison returns:

Thanks to all of you - your help allowed me to
successfully remove the gold without trauma to the
existing leather.

The water was ineffective, as was the  isopropyl - until
I added a little denatured.  It was about a 25% solution.

I will not attempt to disguise the press design.
We have met the request and everyone is happy.

The desk was made in San Francisco at the turn of the
century.   It was made by the Geo. Fuller company
which later merged with the Rucker company.   Today
the Rucker Fuller company is a large outfit servicing
Silicon Valley as well as SF.

The remainder of the desk looked great - it was
restored in my shop in the 80s.

Thanks again for your input.
