Dear Groopsters,
I've just acquired a restoration project that includes this piece.
I am curious if anyone could identify it's origin
and/or approximate date of manufacture.
The owner states that it's been in their family for at least
90 years and probably was purchased in NY state area.
It was stripped by a family member in KS
and stored in a barn for several years.
The current owner has assigned the restoration to us.
It appears to be hand crafted from solid mahogany.
Drawers are hand dovetailed with fine pins on front joints.
All of the hardware is missing save the brass escutcheons
and the one receiver for the missing door latch.
The scribe marks to locate this receiver are still in evidence.
The doors and drawers are veneered with book matched
crotch veneer and is almost all there but for two old well
executed patches along the outer edges of the drawer fronts.
I'll post the results of our efforts is a couple of months.
