I recently did this pine table in a distressed french finish --
and as you can see from the photos the finish is now lifting
away from the wood. This is the first time I've ever had a
problem like this although I've only done this finish twice
(hopefully the other one doesn't come back).

The finish process went like this:
first we sanded to 220 grit,
then the piece was painted with a pigmented lacquer,
then it was lightly sanded and glazed with burnt umber,
then a coat of Trinity vinyl sealer,
then we went over the surface with 60 grit paper
to create scratches then applied a black glaze,
then sealed with vinyl sealer again, then we sanded and
applied 1 coat of Trinity satin pre cat lacquer.

What are my options here?

I've got to refinish the top but I'm afraid it will fail again if I use
the same process, the only thing I can think to do is maybe
sand the wood to 150 to get a better grab on that first coat.

Any ideas?
