Groop,

The pictured antique dresser is in shop for refinishing.
The question is, "Should it be refinished, or what?"

As pictured, the mirror is not attached to the two side
pedestal/shelves as it should be. Attaching the mirror
to the sides would raise it about 6-inches up.

The pictured draw shows that it has hand cut dovetails.
The hardware is attached by screws.
The draw sides are solid mahogany.
The draw faces look to be walnut.
The carcass frame has 1/4-inch thick veneer -
probably walnut or mahogany burl. (I have a
hard time telling the difference sometimes.)

This old piece is in very rickety condition. The finish is
badly damaged (crazed and raised) on the top of the right
draw pedestal. The owner has given me a carte blanc
choice to do the right thing, provided it looks good.

I was hoping that the groop could lend a little guidance.

Thanks,
