Hi my names Phill, I'm a student in Mitches class.

I'm stripping down and refinishing a rocking chair my sister in law bought from target (made in Indonesia)

the glue failed in most of the joints so I decided to knock it down and re-glue. I came across a keyed mortise and tenon joint (see pic) so I drilled out the key with a smaller sized bit, and worked as much of the excess dowel out of the hole as I could. I knocked it apart and apparently there was still some "dowel" in the hole and it tore out some of the end grain on the end of the tenon  (see pic) (the tenon is about 3/4" diameter)

I'm planning on using a polyeurathane glue to re-assemble it. (elmers nano glue)

So my question is; should I fill the tear out with bondo and drill a new key hole, or should I just leave it as is and allow the glue to foam up and fill the void?

thanks
Phill
