Paul did not prefer to use hide glue because of the short open
time and the quantity you had to prepare and keep heated in the
glue pot.  Taking a queue from DonCW (Don C. Williams is a
wood finisher and nice guy I've run into a couple of times) and
Craig Deller (Former Groop member, head of Deller
Conservation Group in Chicago, former student of Don's and
A.I.C. Board of Directors member), I prepped some "salty jell-
o" and poured it into an ice cube tray.  We store the "servings"
of hide glue in a jar in the 'fridge.  Veneer patches will usually
require one cube or less, reveneering a small table might take 3
or 4.  The point is that we can microwave what we need (5-7
sec, stir, repeat until liquid, apply) without running the risk of
overcooking the whole batch.

Paul here.

We discovered that the 1 oz medicine cups that come with some
cough syrups, or in a sleeve of 100 at the drug store, are ideal
for heating the Glue Cube.  They don't even feel hot after 10 sec.
in the microwave.  Granted its a low wattage oven.

We've brought a Staples Office Supply EASY Button into the
shop.  Whenever something is as easy as this glue we hit the
button.  A baritone, Groop-type voice says, "That was easy".
