Groop,
I guess I run from one learning curve to the next.
I am using precat for the first time
and am having problems with it.
As you can see by pics.
1st...
The piano bench was stripped and washed down with naphtha
2nd...
I applied transtint as base coat wash coat.
and sealed with vinyl sealer
3rd...
I applied transtint and sealed with vinyl sealer
4th...
I applied 2 coats of precat tinted with red and raw umber
to match the finish on the piano.
Overnight I got glass cracks in the finish.
I thought something didn't dry enough between coats
so I stripped again and started over.
I got the same results after waiting longer
than what mfgr suggested.
Something's screwy here ....
I stripped again and started over and tried an adhesion test
after the vinyl sealer was put down.
I can peel the vinyl sealer off with my fingernail.
After a deep breath I went to the next job --
a maple diningroom table that the customer
just wanted it cleaned and a new finish put on it.
I said to myself screw the vinyl sealer
I'll just put precat after cleaning with natpha
and a gray scotchbrite pad.
What am I doing wrong here guys ???
