Midwest Groopfest

Midwest Professional Refinishers Groop
Meeting and BBQ
Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1, 2001

After lunch, we caravaned to Rick Teeter's shop
in Olathe KS about 15 miles away.

We started out with good intentions to do something organized at Rick's,
but it sort of evolved into a social discussion and show and tell time.

I think most of the folks that came with specific questions
got at least partial answers.
There was a significant interest in e-commerce
and what it takes -
I think we'll see some new dot-com'ers popping up before long!

We were also all highly impressed with Kim's brag book.
He has worked on some really COOL stuff!
Mike - make note, he is a credit to all tack-bangers!

I think everyone was green with envy over Rick's shop.
It is a great space and very well equiped and arranged.
He spent a lot of time and effort getting it just right.

I wish we'd had more time to talk about some of
Tim Anderson's art and his technique,
but I think those that were particularly interested
got to chat with him for awhile.

About 4:30 folks started wandering off.
Sadly, there was never an actual Groop-Hug,
but then we're not ALL the huggy type, are we?

Either way, I think folks left a little less lonely and
with a little more this or that to help build their business.

Thanks for all who helped.
Video is coming if I can figure out how to make it work!

MichaelR and I got to talking -- and as it turns out,
this was the Second Annual Midwest GroopFest.

Last summer right after I joined, Michael and Jim Hulme and I got
together for BBQ at Rosedale and then toured Michael's old shop.
I can't remember why he didn't come, but I do remember inviting
RickT. At the time, that was pretty much everybody in the area!

Well, I'm pleased with the way it came off and glad to have
had a chance to meet all those great folks.

I've talked to some since and I know that our businesses
are going to start intertwining in some really interesting ways!

Take note all you folks in big cities,
this was a lot of fun and a good business builder
and it all really started last year with just three of us.

So get on the phone and take a groopster to lunch!
