I have this odd roll top repair to make. The tambour is attached to the writing surface. To open the desk you pull out the writing surface and the roll is pulled up into the desk.

 

My question is what do you recommend for the repair?

 

I normally use hide and canvas. In this case the roll has to make a sharp curve in side the desk. I don't know if the hide will give me the flexibility. The original is a paper like tape with thread in it.  It looks like packing tape. I'm tempted to use (sparingly) hide and strips of canvas.
