Groop,
I'm looking for whatever information I can find on this table.
I've never seen this type of finish work on a surface before. It
looks like a burned-on pattern. The wood is very light colored,
soft and lightweight, probably pine.
Also I'm looking for suggestions as to material for covering the
bare circular center area on top. It was gone when I received it,
but there is a thin slot where the material is pushed into and that
is apparently the means for attaching whatever should be there.
I do not see that any glue was used on the top itself to hold the
material down. There was green felt material in this slot and I
have managed to pry out the remnants without damaging the
slot. The felt was not glued in in the slot. However, when I
reported my finding to the owner, she swears her childhood
memory is that it was not felt but instead, green leather. I
found no remnant of leather in the slot, only felt.
We are only doing a little repair, touchup and replacement of
the top material. The owner would like to put back what was
original or nearest available, and asked me to see if I could
find anything on it. She doesn't seem too thrilled about my
felt suggestion. Thanks for any help.
