This chair came in a few days ago for repair- the complaint being
it is very wobbly.

When I removed the oak cap that covered the cylinder mounting
plate to the top of the oak column, I found a few of those screws
to be just a little loose, but there were also a couple of the holes
that had split away since the holes are drilled so close to the
edge. So clearly that would explain some of the wobble, and
would be a fairly easy fix,  but I question if this is enough.

If you look at the underneath view of the base, you can see how
the cylinder does not pass through the hole in that bottom
support plate. It falls just short, and it seems to me that it should
come through that hole a little bit and then it would gain support
from that.  The hollow part of the oak column that the cylinder
runs through is way oversized, so as-is, the only resistance to the
wobble comes from the screws that attach the plate on top.

I'm thinking about trimming off the top of that oak column a little
so that cylinder will slip through the hole on the bottom plate.

Don or anyone else- What do you think here?

I haven't committed to anything yet with the customer- didn't
want to go cutting this base if it isn't necessary.

I can provide higher resolution pictures if needed.

Thanks,

Macfee, KS
