Someone mentioned liking to see finished pictures after groop
discussions on their ongoing projects. I realized that we were
talking about the Golden Acrylics many months ago and I never
followed up on how well they worked for me.
I have a nice mahogany front door that is 3-4 years old. It gets
2-3 hours of sun daily. The finish I used 3 years ago is the
Target exterior spar WB coating. I liked applying it and it has
held up pretty good. I have recoated it every year with a couple
fresh topcoats. I sand the door with 320 before the topcoats.
This past fall, I noticed that while the finish is in good shape,
the color is starting to fade a bit. I decided to give the Golden
Acrylics a test drive. I mixed up a glaze soup of the golden
colorants with their glazing liquid along with a shot of the
Target WB. I was after a dark mahogany color and needed to
add a shot of black colorant that was not in my golden collection.
With the door thoroughly sanded with 320-400 I applied the glaze
just like I would with a lacquered piano. It tooled very well with
both a cheesecloth rag and a 4" brush to give me a great new
look of warm rich mahogany. I let it dry for a few hours and
applied a few fresh clear topcoats of the Target spar.
Looks as good as it did 4 years ago.
