Groop:
I have refinished a working White treadle sewing machine. It is all
reassembled and appears to function properly, except for one thing:
In front, on the left side, there's a little flap that's hinged to the left
side. When the sewing machine is in its open position, this flap is
drawn in, to create sufficient leg room. When the sewing machine
is closed up, the flap swings out to complete the facade of the front.
The movement of the flap is controlled by springs. For the life of me,
I cannot remember or figure out how those springs attach to that flap
to make it function. Obviously the springs have to attach to some
part of the sewing machine as it opens up, but where? There's a little
staple on the back of the flap to which one end of the spring hooks,
but where the other end goes has me baffled.
Yeah, yeah, I know I shoulda taken pix or made notes,
but I thought I'd remember. So much for hindsight!
The photos are of the machine open & closed,
of the flap in various positions, and of the springs.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
