After seeing the gold piano that we talked about in the groop,
I thought I'd dig up these pics and post them.

Here's a few shots of a 1900 Steinway Grand I restored a few years ago.
The poor thing had been stripped of its original gold guilding and painted
green back in the 40's. The owner started the restoration process and
then stopped paying her bills. She sold it to a local piano technician
and we finished the restoration and it recently sold for about 75 grand.

It was quite a challenge of a restoration in that the paint
held together the carving on the sides of the case.
Once stripped, the carving was in pieces
in a shoe box with a few pieces missing.

I puzzled it back together, re-carved the missing pieces,
and neglected to take any progressive pictures of my work.

The owner decided to have it finished in a traditional Steinway
rubbed satin black lacquer as the cost to have it re-guilded in
gold was prohibitively expensive.

In a major way, I lost my butt on the work I did to this piano.
