I mentioned this pair of settee's I'm working on some months back,
but didn't have a camera to share the pics at the time. These have
been an interesting challenge. Many curves at all directions...

Anyway, I find the legs quite unusual. They are all hand-carved walnut,
I think, which is a topic in itself. I have run into this wood that looks
very much like walnut, but doesn't seem heavy enough by weight.
Easy carving? Comments?

They came from a church in St. Joseph, Missouri years back
as they were selling off, and have been stored since.
I know nothing more as to what church.
The customer got the pair for $50 following up on a newspaper ad.

The upholstery is state of the art, fully over-stuffed
with horse hair and glazed wadding, covered in denim,
then evidence showed an original red mohair cover.

The cushion/pillow is filled with mallard down. Beautiful colors!
The down is still as good as new. How long does it last, anyway?

I am curious what you can tell me about the cloven feet.
The dictionary lends them to Satan and devil's way.

How old do you think the settees are?
They appear to be custom pieces, as many parts are marked "Steinway."
It also seems that two different people did the frame work and upholstery.
Differences in both, but hand-crafted.
