(August 26 Update at the bottom)

My wife claimed this old dresser after I restored it a couple years ago.
At that time, the mirror that belonged with it was missing.
I suspected the mirror was attached with small turnings that matched
the turnings on the tops of the mirror support posts and that there were
threads cut into a 3/8" dowel which were screwed into the mirror frame.
Yesterday we found a mirror we have been looking for since then to
complete the project. It's in pretty rough shape but can be restored.
The small turnings are still missing, but I can turn those.
What I need help with is turning the threads.
Can anyone offer advice?
Thanks to all in advance.

The Next Step
I made the "tootsie roll epoxy" cast
only half the diameter of the 3/8" opening
to make sure I could get it out after it set up.
Here's a pic of what I believe was used to attach the mirror.
It's from a Shaving Mirror" from about the same period.
Since this part will thread into the mirror
I'm currently fiddling with,
I assume that the threads were handmade
using what must have been a fairly common
tap and die at that time.
