My ring finger still has a piano wire stitching holding my tendon or
nerve together (not sure which).  I am lucky to have a right hand that
is useable.  Luckily my surgeon was the instructing surgeon at the
med school.  Nerves and tendons severed and sprung up as far
inside as my wrist.  Cut & nicked bones. Split a finger, cut tip
off one and cut the other half way through plus split it.  Large
industrial band saw.  Turned off and cleaning it moving real
quick.  Practically instant on type.  One hand goes in to pull out
dirt and dust while other hand goes in and vice versa cleaning it
all out.  One hand hit the switch on the way out while the other
went in.  A year of rehab to get my hand working again.  Two years
of learning the sensory changes (nerve endings were different than
my brain knew as the were now attached a little different).  Years
of traumatic nightmares of the "accident". Probably 7 years before
I used a band saw again.  Maybe not that long but it was so long I
can't remember the exact amount of time.  Picture is attached of
that hand.  I still have a pain now and then if I pick up or grasp
something wrong with too much pressure at a specific angle and
point it pinches the stitched member in that one tiny spot and
drop everything plus tears & stars!  Thank God I can do what I do
and thanks to all those people that helped get me functional again.
