I recently replied with an opinion on using colored pencils for touch-up
and thought I'd offer before and after pictures of a recent use for them.
This chest lid was broken off on the hinged side. Frank LaRoque
did a magical job for me of repairing & reinforcing the piece, and
reveneering the 45 deg. angle that was destroyed. I only had to recolor
and finish the new veneer. To accomplish the shading and recoloring of
edges where the sanding overlapped onto the other surfaces, etc, I used
colored art pencils. Fast and easy to closely reproduce the darkened
shaded areas and to control the color within boundries on such small
areas. The overlapped small sanded areas on the edges I had to recolor
are difficult to see in the before picture. Its not perfect, but much
faster and easier than using powders on this type of job for me.
