I put a C-clamp or bar clamp across the thickness of the leg
and orient it vertically so that the clamp rests against a piece
of wood against the front of the leg at the middle of the joint.
Then use another bar clamp to actually clamp
the leg/clamp assembly to the pedestal.
I use sandpaper between caul and leg
to keep things from sliding.
