The wood is cherry.

The problem I'm having is getting the fine grain pattern and the

color of the cherry to show thru the thinned out white lacquer.
The glaze that matches best is a burnt and raw umber.

 

Portions of the "rub thru" are highlighted w/ pigmented cherry

glaze.  The underlying salmon color in "parts" of the grain giving

me fits as well as the presentation of the fine grain texture of the

cherry.
