As with most of you that have been finishing for a long time know in most
cases we already have a good idea what is under all those coats of paint
just by glancing at the piece. Well when this particular Hope Chest arrived
at the shop it managed to escape the interest of everyone at the shop
including myself. That all changed once we started stripping off the paint.

I can only tell you the photos really do no justice to how magnificent the
veneer on the front of this piece looks. The colors change from dark to
light so rapidly while walking in front of the chest it is simply astonishing.

I have to admit it is pieces like this that make up for all those old sewing
machine cabinets and baby beds I refinished in the past.
