Jim,
Here are two examples of my work.
The sign was for a local tavern. The frame is solid oak and the bars are
brass and the letters are 23 carat gold leaf. This is a sample of glass
chipping at its finest. This one has her name first and the other one has
his name first, talk about a tickled woman... grin...
The door and surrounding side lights and the eye-brow glass was for a home
in Washington, about 75 miles from here. The glass in the door is from his
great-great grand parents home in Connecticut. The glass came to my shop
about 25 years ago and I hand made the door. The carving is of a 1913
buffalo nickel and the name was his dad's. His dad commissioned me to build
it and I triple-pained and sealed the glass to prevent it from breakage.
A few years ago he called and said that he had sold the ranch after his dad
passed away. The only thing he kept was the door that had built for his
dad. He commissioned me to build the new frame work and to make the glasses
needed for the side lights and the new eye-brow window. If you can see the
detail, the new glass absolutely matches the original glass in the door.
The frame work is all 2 x 8 solid red oak. He liked the work so much that he
gave me $1500 bonus, (That still makes me grin when I show this photo).
Lots of stories here.
