Thought I would just rant a little here.

Around September last year I finished this sycamore and
walnut burl entertainment unit for a real nice customer in
Newport Beach (owns Cabo Yachts).

My good friend, Joe Artese who, in my opinion is the best
yacht designer on the planet, designed this piece and had
a local cabinet maker build it. Joe went to great lengths to
make sure that I was the one to finish it because of our
friendship and he has seen my work over the years.
He didn't want anybody coming in and messing this up
after all the work that went into it. I used Krystal c/v and
it's totally grain filled. It's on the water with a big window
with this white sycamore, you get the picture.

Well, the other day I get a call from him with the information
that the homeowner had decided that he wanted it in high gloss
(he originally decided upon satin after I gave him some choices)
and the cabinet guy just went ahead and had the finisher that
he has been using for many years, do the job. He was doing
some other work there and had him just do that too.

Needless to say it's a BIG problem now. The finisher apparently
just squirted gloss nc right over it and I guess he's now trying
to get it off by sanding etc. and making a big mess . Nobody
consulted me as to the finish (to say nothing of doing the work).

This just amazes me. I couldn't have done it anyway but at least
I could have told them not to put lacquer over it and they could
have just cut and polished it without any added finish!

I know the cabinet guy, Joe knows him, I did the work originally,
he has my number, what is the matter with people!

I did get a call today from the cabinet guy to see if I had
any time (yeah, right). I had to ask what was he thinking?

All I could do for him was to tell him to have his finisher remove all
the nc with lacquer thinner( hopefully the cv wasn't too sanded),
spray vinyl and topcoat with Kristal or if he doesn't know the product,
to use CAB acrylic. It would be a real shame if this cabinet gets
ruined merely because it wasn't convenient to do some homework.

Whew!
That was cathartic.
