Groop,

I have a designer that wants to cover the walls of a room with bamboo.
He would like to use phyllostachys nigra (black bamboo)
but it is very hard to get anymore.
The next best thing is finishing regular bamboo to look like it.

Has anyone done this before and if so what was the best process?
Of course I could paint/glaze etc. but I was hoping that there might
be a good method for darkening it for a more "natural" look.
All I can think of is some kind of fuming process or something.

Are there any idiosyncrasies that I should be aware of
with bamboo since it's such a hard slick substance?

I don't think I've seen this groop stumped yet.
I'm always amazed at the depth of insight here.

Now that the flattery's over, let's see what you've got.
