Groop,

This broken U.S. manufactured chair came in today and
I thought I'd snap a photo to show the poor workmanship.
I can't tell if it was industrial made, which I believe it is,
or in a production smaller shop.

The chair has very thick members, all Pine.
The leg post is 2" square.

What you see in the photo is the rear leg post at the seat rail.
The reason for the photo is to show the long length mortise of 2".
The Tenon is only 1.25" although there was plenty of wood to make
the tenon considerably deeper, wider and fit the 2" mortise tightly.
The builder filled the void with Epoxy as you can plainly see.

In this damage it was the wood (typical of Pine) and construction
that failed. On the other rear leg the railed pulled wood, indicating
is was glued adequately and properly, although still Epoxy filled.
