One of my favorite things about Groopmail is the ongoing permanent thread
“High Points of Low Tech.” I read that first when it appears, and I always
marvel at the creative genius of our company.
I propose that we start a companion thread, also in perpetuity, called
Toolapalooza or some such thing. In that thread we can share with each
other the tools we are passionate about, the tools we find, the tools we
make, and above all, the tools that increase our capability to do what we
do.
To start it off, I submit for your review this vintage anvil/machinists vise
I bought last month. Lately I have been moving more and more towards
dealing with non-furniture interests, including metalwork, engraving,
casting, etc. My tiny basement studio in Maryland does not allow me to have
the mega anvil I would like have at my elbow, and a large machinists vise is
problematic as well. This combo tool the size of a loaf of bread is perfect
for the clamping and pounding I need to do. I’ll mount it on a piece of
stump and slide it under the bench when I am not using it. Perfect.
$10.50 on eBay, with 18.00 for shipping.
