Occasionally a lounge chair comes our way and maybe yours
too, where the vulcanized rubber at the arms--gave up. The only
decent fix is to send the chair to a dealer or to Herman Miller.
Sometimes because the wood specie is no longer available and
HM will not mix wood species. So a repair could easily cost
about $2000. or more. Just to re-attach the rubber cost at least
couple hundred or so, IF everything else is okay.

It came out pretty good didn't it? This is what we did.

We purchased from Woodcraft, a 10 pack of #06M40
Connector bolts (1 1/8") 4 bucks.  Also, the Joint connector Nut
(10 pack), also 4 bucks.

The connector bolts are about 1/2" too long, as the wood
materials are thin. So we threaded the bolt almost to the shoulder
and then shortened the length. It worked like a charm!

The connector bolts is the system that Plycraft used, and it's
much better than the HM method.

Total time to repair, 3.5 hours. Now that we know what to do,
the second time around will be less time.
