This is a picture of a veneer that I need to match up.
What are your thoughts as to what species this is?

Thanks to all that have responded with their opinions and
suggestions on how to accurately identify the wood sample I
posted the picture of. I have posted another photo, with a little
more care taken to eliminate the glare.

I looked for some time through the wonderful photos at the
"hobbithouse" link.  To my eye, there were just as many
possibilities for this wood as there have been suggestions from
the groop (if not more :)  The limited range of veneer samples I
currently have suggested to me one of two options, as shown in
the new photo.

While for this particular repair, obtaining the particular species
may not be as critical as obtaining replacement pieces that can
be made to look like the original, I did (and do) have an interest
in learning what this wood is.  This piece and a matching hutch
have severe water damage to the bottoms that I am going to
repair and re-veneer. The approximate sizes are 12 x 36 and 16
x 60, so the smaller pieces on Ebay won't work this time.  My
plan is to order a couple of sheets of walnut veneer and get to
work on the color match.

I am, once again, very happy to have access to this body of
knowledge.
