Here are some pics of a recent project I worked on where the pie safe came in already painted and distressed, and I used it as the base coats to accomplish the final look, I used  interior wall paint from HD and Burnt umber and Van Dyke brown glaze and finished off with a satin CAB acrylic lacquer.  It sat in my front room at my shop for three weeks and I could have sold it ten times over, the interest was that high.
 
This is the pie safe when it cam in the  shop, I did not want to strip it, and thankfully they wanted it painted.
 
 
 
this is the first coat of a light green base coat.
 
 
 
second coat of a slightly different shade of green with orange highlights, that initially looked a little odd, but really looked great at the end.
 
 
 
This was the final product, with two coats of glaze and three coats of medium rubbed CAB acrylic lacquer,
