Daniel Shafner submits a tip and photo from Mac Simmons:
"[This] shows a panel with sapwood and heartwood, then, it
shows it being partially blended in, and then totally colored in.
I did this sample by dry brushing, using a raw umber dry powder. This
brushing technique could also be done using a
paste colorant or a glaze."
