Craig Cianciolo writes:
Some of you are asked to reproduce string inlay of unique thickness.
'String Inlay' Precision Thicknesser: Take your least favorite chisel,
sharpen square and turn a hook on the edge, flatten one side of the
handle perpendicular to the cutting edge (I held the chisel down on
the table of the bandsaw and trimmed one side of the handle), epoxy
a block to the flat part of the handle, drill a hole through the handle
and two in the mounting block (one to mount the chisel- the other for
a fence), glue two dowels into the mounting block, use c-clamps to
secure the chisel after adjustment, drill an off-centered hole in a
teardrop shaped block for 'cam action fine adjustment' on the fence.
Use pliers to pull rough cut strings through in one motion so you don't
get scraper chatter.

Greg Williams replies:
There is a similar device called a "strap cutter" used for cutting leather
straps of virtually any width. It holds a razor blade perpendicular to the
plane of the leather so that the leather is pulled against it.
