I had the opportunity to visit Steve Nearman's shop a few
weeks ago. Over the week and a half I was blown away with
his setup, technique and knowledge. He's been in the biz for a
long time and has learned how to "skin the cat" in many
different ways, all of them quickly. He's built his own shop
and stocked it with some really useful stuff: a Laguna
Bandsaw, a Jet Wet Grinder, a Festool Sander and a C.A.
Technologies AAA Gun and Pump.
I was especially impressed with his ability to pad on pigment
in large areas. I wasn't able to get a picture of the completed
project, but you can see the direction it's headed in.

Here is his spray setup with dedicated gun and pot for sealer,
air powered agitator and pump for topcoat and cup gun for
dying and toning.

The shop van has a few miles, a couple of stories and gets the
job done.

Steve's training the next generation of wood worker/ wood
finisher. This is Steve's assistant (the other Austin) who spins
out some pretty nice bowls and pens in his free time.

The shop landscape changes from day to day depending on
what's coming down the pipe, which is easily accomplished
because almost everything is on wheels. After working there
a little while you get a pretty good feel for the shop and its
layout.

Thank you Steve for giving me the chance to get out there and
see you, meet you and your family and for showing me some
of your well developed methods. I can only pray that my eye
for color gets to be half as good as yours. I can't wait for the
video to come out.
