I am getting ready to restore this table but before I start I
need some advice.
First, does anyone know what period this might be? To me it
looks like it incorporates more than one style...fluted legs are
similar to Hepplewhite, Adam, Sheraton. I think the top is a
turtle top which is found in Victorian tables. And, the base
somewhat reminds me of Victorian lamp tables. In a round about
way maybe it is Victorian?
Second, the decoration in the middle appears to be ink to me.
The corners of the decoration are a different wood that the rest
of the top but the design is definitely in the finish. What is
the best way to preserve this while restoring the finish or do I
need to plan on redoing it once the top is refinished?
Third, I've searched for inlay (3/8") and have found the diamond
pattern but not with the little squares. Do any of you have
sources you would suggest? I only need about 3" to fix the ends
where it is missing. If I can't find an exact match I plan to
faux paint the squares on to a piece of diamond inlay.
Thanks,
