One of the pioneer families in our area brought over
this cabinet from England when they came to homestead.
Family legend has it that this cabinet and a pool table
were shipped to Ontario and then carried overland to the
interior of British Columbia about 4000 km (or 2500 miles),
quite an imposing task for that era.
It now belongs to the great grandson who,
with his wife, would like to have the piece restored.
I told them I would try to find out from the Groop
what the piece was called and possibly how old it is.
Sorry about the quality of the picture
but I hope you can make out some of the detail.
It seems to be made of walnut and some surfaces
are covered with walnut veneer. The top is heavy marble
with a mirror mounted above topped with a shelf held up
with cast brass spindles. The doors have an elaborate
fretwork in them and the open space between them
is supposed to have a mirror at the rear.
