I was finishing a wing back chair that had cane in the seat and in the
wings and realized that I needed to share my caning tools with you.
The one shaped like a whistle is the one I use for pressing the wet
cane into the groove. It is shaped like this because of how it fits my
hand. I installed the cane with no blisters or cussing.
The square one with "lips" is for the spline. If you use a hammer to
put in the spline into a tight groove, you will munsch the spline all to
pieces. With this tool, it is real easy to hammer the spline into place
and have a really smooth job. It even looks professional :o)
