Back in the mid 70's during my apprentiship,
I had a friendly competition with my friend Jerry
to make an unusual "Blendal Box".

I took two pieces of walnut and cut a dovetail-dado slot
for the pieces to slide together. I then drilled 19 holes
and reamed the bottoms with a rounding burr cutter.
To hold the colors in their place, I attached a piece of
leather in a slot cut along the edge. Then I decorated
the top side with a little carving and shot catalyzed
lacquer on it (yeah -- catalyzed lacquer in 1975).

I've used this box for all my touch up for over 25 years
and my only complaint is that it isn't a little bigger.
About 25 holes would be best for me.
Of course, the finish has worn quite well,
but I really don't want to refinish it.
