Fred Woodall updates us on Rick's situation:

We drove into Orange this morning to find Rick's shop just like
he said. The place is destroyed. Most of the stationary tools are
rusted with little chance of being salvageable. Some of the hand
tools Rick had lying around are simply gone. My guess they were
scattered throughout Orange County by the storm.

Most power lines are down and two of the buildings close to
Rick's shop are nothing but a pile of rubble.

We covered up all the stationary tools with large mattress bag
covers to help protect from further damage by rain since there is
no roof. That is about all that could be done until Rick finds
another location to put everything.

Rick spent some time with us and I must say he is a rather
extraordinary individual in many respects and I found it to be a
pleasure to meet him in person. I only wish it were under different
circumstances.

Rick knows there are individuals in groop who are interested in
sending money to him and groop was working on how to do that
once he could be contacted.  Rick now has a cell phone and the
phone at his mother's home is working. I talked with Dave
Macfee this afternoon and provided him with all the information
so I leave it in Dave's capable hands from here.

Rick knows to contact me if he needs anything and I expect him
to do just that. If I am needed for anything else please let me
know.

Bill Ferguson reports:

Hello everybody! Attached is a picture of our friend and regular
Groop contributor Rick Bertran's shop after Rita's visit to Orange
TX. I hope that Rick and his family have faired better than his
shop. My son and his family also live in Orange. They were able
to get out before Rita came. It took them 16 hours to drive to the
Dallas area. They will be staying with us until the power and
water in Orange are turned back on.
